As Senate President & Governor, Richard Codey has withstood the tests of character, integrity and leadership. Codey's opportunity to lead was stunted by the political bosses who control our government through a system corrupted by money and by a former Wall Street millionaire who grew bored in the United States Senate. He brought New Jersey together in a time of upheaval, fomented healing in the wake of scandal and brought stability to a chaotic financial situation. As a true Democrat who loved his state too much to tear it apart, Codey ceded the office of Governor to Jon Corzine because he knew a divisive primary election was not in the public interest in 2005. |

His fight for the Nixonian principle of 'executive privilege' has brought potentially scandalous email messages -- hundreds of pages exchanged during union negotiations between Corzine and his ex-girlfriend, union leader Carla Katz -- at taxpayer expense to the state Supreme Court. Corzine's inability to manage New Jersey's finances resulted in a loss of $25 billion from our state pension funds, a projected $8 billion deficit in next year's budget and massive layoffs and cuts to close a $3.5 billion gap in our current spending plan -- but he reappointed members of the state investment council who blew $25 billion! His arrogance and incompetence resulted in a shut down of state government and all New Jersey casinos in 2006, Corzine's first year as governor. Despite an increase in the sales tax, Corzine broke his promise to expand property tax relief for middle-class residents. Now, he wants to eliminate the property tax rebates completely for working residents while preserving them for some higher income people! | Your generous contribution will fund our efforts to identify supporters who want to Draft Gov. Codey, publicize our ongoing work and help elect Democrats who embrace the values that make the Democratic Party great.
